VM racing: SM exhaust KTM 690 / Husqvarna 701 / GASGAS 700

A high-performance exhaust system developed to unlock the full potential of the 690 engine.

The new VM Racing exhaust system, created in collaboration with MT Race, stems from a dedicated development project aimed at maximizing the performance of the 690 engine across its entire power delivery range.

What makes this project unique is its starting point: the exhaust was not designed based on the motorcycle’s original configuration; instead, it was developed directly on a tuned engine—one already equipped with our Airbox system, a custom intake velocity stack, and optimized electronic management.

This configuration significantly alters the engine's intake characteristics and overall behavior, necessitating a bespoke design for the entire exhaust system.

Development and Performance

Every component was crafted through rigorous development and extensive dyno testing. We fine-tuned lengths, diameters, internal geometries, and pressure waves, paying particular attention to the system's resonance characteristics.

The result is an exhaust that enhances engine performance starting from low RPMs, delivering a robust power curve and a substantial performance boost in the upper reaches of the rev range.

A key development objective was to maintain strong thrust even beyond the peak power RPM, allowing the engine to continue performing effectively right up to the rev limiter.

To fully leverage the capabilities of this complete system, we have also developed a specific electronic map, available through our VM Racing dyno facility.

Silencer with Specialized Internal Geometry

The silencer itself has also undergone a dedicated development process.

Its length is a precise design choice, dictated by the fluid-dynamic requirements of the engine. Internally, it features a perforated core structure and conical geometries specifically designed to optimize exhaust gas flow, contributing to effective power delivery at both low and high RPMs.

Every element of the system has been dimensioned to work in synergy with the other components.

Construction and Quality

The system is manufactured entirely in Italy, constructed from steel with a strong focus on material quality and resistance to mechanical stress.

The header pipe incorporates a mounting system with an intermediate silent block, designed to dampen the stresses caused by the vibrations typical of the 690 single-cylinder engine.

It also includes a provision for a lambda sensor, facilitating the development and adjustment of a dedicated electronic engine map.

Modular System: Silencer or Full Exhaust System

The VM Racing × MT Race exhaust is designed to offer two different purchasing options.

STEP 1 – Silencer with dedicated link pipe

The silencer can be purchased separately and installed directly onto the motorcycle's original header pipe, using a specific link pipe developed by VM Racing.

This solution allows you to start with just the silencer and complete the full exhaust system at a later stage.

STEP 2 – Full exhaust system

This includes both the silencer and the specific VM Racing × MT Race header pipe, designed and dimensioned to work in tandem.

When combined with a dedicated electronic map and intake modifications, this configuration allows you to take full advantage of the development work invested in the project.

The modular design allows you to upgrade from the silencer-only configuration to the full exhaust system without needing to replace the silencer you previously purchased.
